Kitesurfer Airton Cozzolino Takes First Place in Cabo Verde at the GKA Kite World Tour:

Airton Cozzolino, our 2023 World Champion, kicked off the new season with a clear goal in mind. We joined him at his home in Cabo Verde to see what goes on behind the life of a champion and to truly feel the pressure of starting the first competition of the year at home.

Cozzolino’s Prime Performance:

In an exciting day of competition at the Kite-surf World Cup, the talented Airton Cozzolino showcased his mastery of the waves and secured a prominent spot in the final. In an epic showdown against his friend and mentor, Mitú Monteiro, Cozzolino emerged victorious after 30 minutes of intense navigation in epic waves. With impressive scores, including massive waves of 9.10 and 8.53, Cozzolino made it clear that he was at his best.

Brazil Also Makes an Impact:

In the minifinal, the battle between Brazilians Pedro Matos and Gabriel Benetton kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Matos narrowly defeated Benetton by a minimal margin of 0.07 points, standing out with an impressive wave of 8.30 that made a significant impact on the final result.

The Final Showdown:

In the final, Cozzolino faced Gabriel Benetton with a fierce hunger for victory. His monstrous wave of 9.43 sealed his place in the final, bringing his total series score to 17.53 and ensuring a memorable performance in the Kite-surf World Cup.

With his outstanding performance and unmatched skill in the waves, Airton Cozzolino left an indelible mark on the competition, solidifying his position as one of the world’s top kite-surfers.

Matchu Lopes, 5th Place for the Spaniard:

In an intense and thrilling series at the Kite-surf World Cup, Mitu Monteiro achieved an impressive victory over Matchu Lopes. Despite Lopes leading for most of the series, Monteiro capitalized on the wave conditions in the final seconds and secured a crucial wave that guaranteed him the win. Although Lopes managed a spectacular barrel on one of the following waves, time ran out before he could capitalize on it.

Despite this defeat, Matchu Lopes demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the competition, securing a notable fifth place overall. Monteiro’s skill and determination in decisive moments proved crucial in this series, cementing his reputation as one of the most talented and resilient kite-surfers on the world circuit. Despite Lopes’s efforts, Monteiro emerged as the undisputed winner of this thrilling showdown in the world-class competition.
