At 81 years old, the German has become one of the most renowned kitesurfers in the Canary Islands, known for his thirst for adventure and his ability to ride the waves of the Maspalomas dunes.

They say age is just a number, and for Klaus Fietz, this saying is a way of life. At 81 years old, the German has become one of the most renowned kitesurfers in the Canary Islands, known for his thirst for adventure and his ability to ride the waves of the Maspalomas dunes.

And indeed, according to Klaus himself, kitesurfing is “much better than sitting on the couch watching TV.” The German has been practicing this beautiful water sport for over four decades and has no plans of stopping. “I started here very young and I’m still competing here. I no longer aspire to win or achieve great success; participating is the most important thing,” acknowledged the athlete.

Klaus is one of the most recognized kitesurfers in Gran Canaria, where he has participated in editions of the ‘Gran Canaria Kite & Wing Foil Festival’. His skills in this sport at the age of 81 garner praise and admiration from enthusiasts of this pastime.

Klaus, of German origin, fell in love with this sport for the first time when he got on a board in the Canary Islands and felt what it was like to ride the water propelled by a kite.
